Weather triggers (automatic content)

Switch a screen to a chosen slideshow the moment it rains, snows, or gets hot or cold. Your city's real weather decides, hands-free.

A weather trigger links a weather condition to a slideshow. When the real weather at the screen's city meets the condition, that slideshow automatically takes over the screen, in place of the usual content. As soon as the condition no longer holds, the screen returns to its normal schedule on its own. Perfect for a terrace showing hot drinks when it rains, an ice-cream shop pushing sundaes when it is hot, or a store featuring umbrellas at the first shower.

How it works

You set a city (the screen's) and one or more rules such as “If rain → Hot drinks slideshow”. Every 30 minutes MisterSignage reads that city's real weather. If a rule matches, its slideshow overrides the schedule and default content. It is free and included: no key, no weather account to create.

Set up a trigger

  1. In your account, open the screen (or group) and click Triggers.
  2. Enter the screen's city (the one whose weather should be tracked).
  3. Add a rule: pick a condition, then the slideshow to play when it is true. For “hot” or “cold”, set the threshold temperature (in °C).
  4. Add more rules if needed (the first match wins), then save.
First create the slideshow the trigger should play (e.g. “Hot drinks”), then point the rule at it.

Available conditions

  • Rain — drizzle, rain or showers in progress.
  • Snow — snowfall in progress.
  • Clear sky — clear or lightly cloudy weather.
  • Hot ≥ X °C — temperature reaches or exceeds your threshold.
  • Cold ≤ X °C — temperature drops to your threshold or below.

Priority and fallback

An active trigger takes priority over the time schedule: weather wins while the condition lasts. If weather is momentarily unavailable, the screen simply keeps its normal content — never a blank screen. Weather is cached for ~30 minutes, so a change in conditions is reflected within half an hour at most.

To schedule by time and day instead, see the time schedule; for what shows outside the slots, off-hours and standby; and to chain several slideshows, the slideshow sequence.
